1. Where did the signal originate?
Document whether someone wore the device, when the capture occurred and which sensors actually delivered meaningful data. A blank or unworn-device control is not an optional detail.
Dream Lattice begins with the gap between an experience, a physiological signal, and the image a machine persuades us to trust.
Explore Book 1: The Dreamers →In real sleep research, instruments can record measurable correlates of sleep, while dream content is usually known through participants’ reports. A hypothetical system that reconstructs dream imagery must still justify every step from signal to depiction. This difference drives the series: an impressive result may be accurate, contaminated, overinterpreted, or wholly unrelated to the experience it claims to preserve.
Dream Lattice treats the interface as a fictional extrapolation. Its scientific credibility depends on carefully separating what was recorded from what an algorithm inferred and what an operator later illustrated. A generated image is not proof that the sleeping person saw the depicted scene.

Distinguish the original measurement, preprocessing, model estimates, artistic reconstruction and later enhancements. Gaps should remain visible rather than being quietly painted over.
Independent controls, clear provenance and tests designed to disprove a preferred explanation matter more than the vividness of a result. Repetition alone does not validate shared identity.
First-person accounts, delayed recall, suggestion and the device’s output can influence one another. The story depends on preserving disagreement rather than forcing all accounts into a single clean interpretation.
When dream sharing progresses from an extraordinary claim to a social system, questions multiply. A reconstruction can affect a relationship or a court case even when it is wrong. A genuine record can reveal another person’s private representation without proving an external event occurred. A seemingly helpful enhancement can transform the very evidence people are trying to understand.
This page is a story-world science guide, not a description of a working device or a claim that scientists can currently record fully faithful dreams. The public technological concepts remain separate from scientific validation.
