The conflict expands from one vault to the legitimacy of the rescue civilization itself. Every compassionate act must now survive forensic reconstruction, public challenge, branch uncertainty, and the possibility that the investigators are following a message written by their own future decisions.
The Retrieved have begun building new lives. Their testimony should confirm the histories preserved in Concordium archives. Instead, small discrepancies emerge: phrases remembered by no surviving culture, rescue symbols appearing before the Rescue Corps existed, and records that describe observers who were never assigned to the mission.
At first the anomalies look like archive noise, translation error, or trauma. Then multiple eras report the same pattern.
A tribunal forms to investigate whether the Concordium’s doctrine of minimal intervention has ever been true. JANUS can authenticate the records but cannot explain their origin.
