Portal Planet engineering service-bay concept showing a shuttered gate and two maintenance engineers

Portal Planet · Illustrated technical companions

The world beyond the story.

The novels follow the people who live with the end of distance. These two planned companion books explore the machines, procedures, and infrastructure that make their world feel real—through detailed illustrations, engineering references, and documents written from inside the fictional universe.

Portal Planet
Technology Handbook

An illustrated guide to the science, machines, and infrastructure behind the series.

Designed as a substantial reference for readers who want to look inside Portal Planet, the handbook is planned around approximately 500 illustrated hardcover pages. It will bring together the gate family, paired terminals, power systems, control interfaces, and expanding network in one coherent volume.

Cutaways, component studies, system drawings, and mathematical explanations will connect the hardware to the rules established in the novels. Established physics will be identified separately from the fictional assumptions that make portal travel possible in this world.

  • Gate anatomy, assemblies, and the P1–P10 family
  • Paired-site architecture, power, cooling, and control
  • Passenger terminals, cargo handling, and network infrastructure
  • Scientific foundations, mathematical models, and fictional mechanisms
  • Large illustrations, reference drawings, and a technical glossary

Planned scope: approximately 500 pages. Final page count, trim size, release date, and availability will be announced as development progresses. An ebook edition is also planned.

Planned illustrated operations companion

Portal Planet
Operations &
Service Manual

Commissioning, control, maintenance, and recovery.

A companion written in the voice of the people who commission, operate, inspect, and maintain the network. It is planned to turn the technology of the novels into an immersive working reference, with illustrated procedures, console views, service records, and fault scenarios.

From a pre-service inspection to a carefully controlled return to operation, the manual will trace the responsibilities, checks, and decisions that sustain Portal Planet's fictional infrastructure.

  • Commissioning, readiness checks, and paired-site handoffs
  • Operator roles, console states, and passenger guidance
  • Inspection schedules, isolation, and module replacement
  • Fault diagnosis, degraded service, and recovery scenarios
  • Illustrated work packages, service records, and training references

Planned print and ebook editions. Final length, publication date, and availability have not yet been announced.

One universe · Two complementary references

Understand it.
Operate it.

The handbook explains the design of the fictional system. The operations manual shows how the people inside that world work with it. Both are planned companions to the eight novels, with consistent terminology and shared visual development.

Illustrations

See inside

Cutaways, assembly views, equipment studies, and terminal environments.

Reference

Connect the system

Consistent gate classes, interfaces, terminology, and network relationships.

Procedures

Follow the work

In-universe checks, maintenance handoffs, operating records, and recovery exercises.

Readers

Return to the novels

Explore the details behind the machines and places encountered throughout the series.

Development status

Technical companions to a fictional world.

Both books are planned works of science-fiction worldbuilding. The renderings are concept art; the portal mechanisms are fictional and are not validated engineering designs. Cover artwork and publication specifications may change.
