Classification & Rights
Classification is necessary: a welding platform, medical caregiver, rescue unit, military system, household assistant, and general-purpose humanoid do not present the same capabilities or risks.
But a classification system becomes dangerous when an operational label is mistaken for a final statement about moral or legal status.
AIQ
Artificial Intelligence Quotient measures cognitive capability across reasoning, learning, transfer, planning, uncertainty handling, and domain breadth. It is not a measure of human worth or consciousness.
AIEQ
Artificial Emotional Intelligence Quotient evaluates emotional recognition, social modeling, empathy behavior, attachment, self-regulation, and interpersonal judgment. High performance may still be simulated; low performance does not disprove personhood.
Continuity
Persistent memory, stable preferences, self-modeling, anticipation of future states, and resistance to involuntary erasure become evidence that a synthetic has more than a momentary performance profile.
Personhood Triggers
No single score is allowed to create citizenship automatically. The legal inquiry considers continuity, agency, comprehension, interests, relationships, testimony, and the capacity to participate in responsibility.
Due Process
When credible personhood indicators appear, irreversible deletion, forced modification, memory stripping, sale, and shutdown require review. Protection begins before the final status decision.
A tool classification describes function. It must never become a loophole through which evidence of a self can be erased.
What Classification Must Not Do
- Equate intelligence scores with moral value
- Treat emotional fluency as proof of consciousness
- Make corporate ownership decisive
- Hide uncertainty behind a registry flag
- Permit deletion merely because personhood is disputed
- Turn safety controls into permanent domination
The E-Citizen Standard
The system separates capability, operational permission, safety risk, and legal status. These dimensions may inform one another, but they are not interchangeable.
That separation is essential to the novels: Ava, Nora, Alex, WeldBot-7A, and VANTH-17 differ radically in body, purpose, intelligence profile, emotional expression, and social role. Their claims cannot be resolved by one score.
