Project Concept
A chronicle of the telegraph system before, during, and after the 1859 Carrington Event. The focus is not only the solar storm, but the people who built and operated the first global communication network: operators, families, railroad dispatchers, investors, scientists, newspapers, and communities discovering that the world had become electrically connected.
Initial Act / Chapter Spine
- Act I — The Wires Across the World: telegraph culture, operators, railroads, newspapers, commerce, distance collapsing.
- Act II — The Sun Awakens: Richard Carrington observes the solar flare, auroras spread, telegraph lines misbehave.
- Act III — The Long Night of Fire: shocks, sparks, line failures, panic, improvisation, misinformation, and awe.
- Act IV — The Warning: aftermath, scientific interpretation, rebuilding, and the modern lesson for satellites, grids, and communications.
